Buying alternative milks can get quite pricey when you use them for pretty much everything: smoothies, with cereal, chia seed puddings, baking, or just purely as a bev. So I’ve opted to making my own hemp milk! It’s super easy and requires very few ingredients. You can basically use this recipe for any nut milks as well (almond, cashew, etc.).
Ingredients & tools needed:
1 cup – hemp hearts
4 cups – water
1 ½ tbsp – maple syrup
2 tsp – vanilla extract
High speed blender
Nut milk bag or cheese cloth (for straining the milk from the pulp)
1) Measure out the ingredients and place them in a blender.
2) Blend on high for 30-60 seconds or until mixture becomes a milky white colour.
3) To strain, place a nut milk bag or cheese cloth over a mason jar or jug. Pour the milk into the bag, twist it close and squeeze the liquid through.
4) Store the milk in a sealed container in the fridge.
This is a super simple recipe and doesn't take much time. The maple syrup adds a bit of sweetness to this nutty tasting milk and is a great alternative to cow's milk! Give it a try and let me know how it goes. :)
