Better sleep in 1, 2, 3!

In the hustle and bustle of every day life, we may find ourselves so tense and overwhelmed that we experience insomnia. Melatonin is often used to help fall asleep but there are other natural ways to fall and stay asleep. Here are three herbs to a good sleep and an even better morning:

  1. Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) is a plant that has calming properties. The root is dried and used to help calm the nervous system for a good night’s rest. This particular root can help you fall asleep faster and promote a better quality of sleep. Valerian can be taken in capsule, tea or tincture form. Do so an hour before bedtime and get ready for an amazing night of much deserved rest!

  2. Passionflower (passiflora incarnata) is a flower that is beautiful both inside out! It is known to calm the mind and ease all sorts of mental stress. With its sedative properties due to GABA, an inhibitory neurotransmitter that regulates the sympathetic nervous system (our fight or flight responses), passionflower is great for relaxing both the mind and body. It can be taken in tea or tincture form. In tincture form, use around 30-50 drops before bedtime on nights you need to wind down.

  3. Lavender (Lavendula officinalis) is a flower we’re quite familiar with because of its distinct and beautiful scent. Other than smelling great, Lavender is also great for sleep! It is known to alleviate various mental imbalances such as depression, anxiety, and insomnia so it is great for dealing with stress. Lavender can be taken in tincture, tea, and capsule forms. You can even take a nice bath with lavender oil and epsom salt to relax both the body and mind at the same time!
